The rescueME EPIRB1 from Ocean Signal purports to be smaller,
Ocean Signal is introducing the world’s most compact Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) to the Australian market at this year’s Sydney International Boat Show. Featuring a ground-breaking 30% reduction in size compared to other EPIRBs, the Category/Class 3 rescueME EPIRB1 provides the boat’s essential link to emergency services within the most easily accessible and convenient EPIRB available on the market.
Expanding Ocean Signal’s innovative rescueME product range, the EPIRB1 has been designed by some of the world’s leading engineers to provide critical and tangible benefits for the user. Supplied with integrated GPS as standard, it also guarantees fast and accurate positioning information is transmitted to the authorities in the event of an emergency.
The new rescueME EPIRB1 measures just 178mm (height with antenna stowed) by 89mm and weighs 422g. It is manually activated and can be easily retained within its manual release bracket due to its small size or placed in an emergency grab-bag or life raft.
Ease of operation is ensured by a retractable antenna which provides maximum protection and reduced outline for stowage and is deployed with a gentle pull, using one hand if necessary. A simple protective tab over the operating keys prevents inadvertent activation.
Ensuring maximum chance of survival in an emergency, the Ocean Signal rescueME EPIRB1 communicates the location of a survivor to search and rescue services in three ways – the designated 406MHz Cospas-Sarsat satellite system with position provided by a 66-channel GPS, a 121.5MHz homing beacon, plus two high brightness strobes to maximise visibility in low light conditions.
Once activated, the rescueME EPIRB1 transmits the position and user’s unique ID to a Rescue Coordination Centre via satellite link for transfer to the relevant local search and rescue services.
All of Ocean Signal’s safety products provide exceptional battery life and the rescueME EPIRB also offers this benefit with a 10-year battery life, which is further supported by a 5-year warranty. Operating within a temperature range of -20C and +55C, the Ocean Signal EPIRB will transmit for 48 hours.
The launch of the rescueME EPIRB1 follows Ocean Signal’s development of the world’s smallest personal locator beacon, the rescueME PLB1.
Alan Wrigley, Ocean Signal Managing Director, said: “After meticulous research and development, we are delighted to introduce another exceptional and affordable product to add to our rescueME portfolio. Leading the market in small size and weight, the rescueME range is designed to be practical and versatile, taking up minimal space when attached to clothing or secured in the boat, and easily activated in the most challenging conditions.
“Our rescueME EPIRB1 meets the Category 3 requirements for the Australian market and has been developed specifically for this market. We are excited to introduce this new product to boaters and anticipate the new EPIRB will be on sale in October 2014.
“An EPIRB is an essential safety product for your boat and we are confident that our rescueME EPIRB1 will provide all mariners with the necessary peace of mind they are seeking as they will be assured of a reliable link to the emergency services in the most user-friendly and compact form.”
For longer distance trips, the Ocean Signal Class 1 and 2-approved E100G EPIRB offers an exceptional 96 hour operational life with the option of an automatic release housing.
The Ocean Signal rescueME EPIRB1 will be distributed in Australia by All Sat Communications. For more information, please visit the All Sat Stand 375 at this year’s Sydney International Boat Show or visit http://www.oceansignal.com or http://www.allsat.com.au.
