GPRS Enabled Security Camera from OSIL

OSIL offers a new quad band GPRS camera system to the marketplace for site security and asset management. The static, low power system is capable of sending a still color (2 megapixel) image via MMS, email or by FTP to a browser or to a customized website. Pictures can be taken on demand when the camera is sent an activation trigger/request by SMS, telephone, email or web browser, in addition to regular pictures take on a timed schedule, or when the optional motion-activated PIR sensor is triggered. KVH Leads Maritime VSAT Market -Report

The mini-VSAT Broadband service of KVH Industries, Inc., has been cited in a newly published report as the market share leader in the maritime VSAT industry by vessels in service. “The COMSYS Maritime VSAT Report, 4th Edition” estimates that KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadband customers account for 17.9% of the vessels using maritime VSAT service, as of the end of 2014. According to COMSYS, KVH’s market share is nearly double the nearest competitor, whose customers account for an estimated 9.6% of vessels using VSAT service.

Firefighting probably will never be a (hot) topic for discussion at the breakfast table, during leisure time or possibly any other venue. On the other hand, I can think of few things more important to a merchant mariner – or any seafarer, for that matter. That said; (Captain) Sean Tortora’s comprehensive text entitled Marine Fire Prevention, Firefighting, and Safety, published just this past year, is a worthy and compelling “read.” Comprehensive in its coverage, concise in its delivery, the 176-page manual is simply the most complete and readable firefighting guide that I have ever come across.
