Maintaining access to an AIS receiver while moving about on a large yacht has become a lot easier with the latest wave of wireless remote AIS receivers. While the main unit at the nav station is still transmitting your position on the high seas, it is comforting to know you do not have to be planted in a chair and staring constantly at the chartplotter in order to keep tabs on whatever is lurking out there at 0200 in the middle of a storm.

Ecdis and ENCs improve navigation safety

The implementation and use on board of ecdis has reduced navigation risk. Ship groundings and collisions can be avoided if ecdis is used correctly, with all alarms set properly. Safety is also improved if navigators refer regularly to other navigation aids, such as radar, and maintain situational awareness by looking out of the bridge window. RINA: Charting a course to Subchapter M compliance

Some 12 years since the US Congress first recommended that the USA’s domestic towing industry improve safety, the final version of the so-called Subchapter M rule was finally published on 20 June 2016. The rule, which came into legal force a month later on 20 July, imposes new and extensive inspection and safety management requirements on a sector of the towing industry that has been subject to relatively little regulation up to now. Más de 2 mil buques Son los que entran a cargar granos y subproductos en el gran Rosario

Ante la falta de información estadística sobre el tema, en el presente trabajo realizaremos un análisis de la cantidad de buques que ingresan a la vía navegable troncal del Río Paraná y a las terminales portuarias del Gran Rosario, anualmente. Trataremos de inferir cual es la composi-ción por tipo de buques y las características de los mismos. También efectuaremos una simulación de cómo se modificarían las cargas de estos buques en el caso de que el Gobierno Nacional y el concesionario dispusieran una profundización a 36/38 pies del Río Paraná (más 2 pies de revancha en el tramo Océano-Timbúes).
